Per November 2023 I have started my new role as a Product Owner at Robin Radar Systems.
Delft, South Holland, Netherlands
As a Global Product Manager UI/UX I was responsible for the complete user experience and user interaction with the DC fast charging product portfolio, which contained 5 complete product lines. My main focus was on the products in the public domain and the products with a GUI. I was in a key position to connect different customer requirements and internal architectural and maintenance requirements into a modular global solution, provide the roadmap to stakeholders and collaborate with the development teams. I connected usability and inclusive design and on the other hand scalability and feasibility of the solutions on a resource constraint embedded system. Together with the Product Owner team (10+ teams), of which I was also part, we clarified requirements for new customer features as well as new end user functionality. In this role I also managed the software development backlog (Agile Scrum methodology) for the team concerned with the user interface. Together we defined the GUI, and on addition to that we made sure customers can style the ABB GUI to their needs. This requires close contact with the charger operators, to understand their desires.I also advised on hardware designs or low-tech user interactions where necessary.

ABB E-mobility was separated from ABB per 1-1-2022. The content of work did not change.

With continuous growth on ABB's EV portfolio, after December 2019 I focused more on the role of Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO I certificate), and the module ownership of the Payment Terminals, mainly focusing on the software aspect to it.My role was twofold. On one side, I managed the software backlog for the graphical user interface (GUI) of the EV chargers. With 10+ software development teams nowadays, I am also strongly collaborating with other teams and their respective Product Owners in a very dynamic and demanding environment. The market growth for EV charging is strong as always, which makes the role of Product Owner challenging and very interesting. On the other side, I gathered and keep an overview on customer requirements for Payment Terminals, participate in roadmap discussions, initiate new Payment Terminal integrations and manage software backlog items for the Payment Terminals. From time to time I also still am consulted by colleagues on usability topics.

Over the years, ABB's DC EV charging portfolio grew a lot. A platform approach keeps the variants manageable. As a Technical Module Owner for all User-facing modules, I have been responsible for all modules that are in some way used by the end-user of the EV charger: the driver of the vehicle. This contains the GUI and its supporting main computer, the Payment Terminals, RFID readers, cables and connectors, cable management systems and generic questions about usability and context of use. As a result of above, I performed as a Scrum Product Owner (PSPO I certificate) to manage software requirements on the GUI. For the Payment Terminals, I took the role of Scrum Product Owner, and additionally managed any hardware changes or new developments. For the other subjects, my main tasks were gathering of requirements from stakeholders, communication with the executing teams and change management.

The position for Product Manager was split into a Commercial and Technical role, still for the series of DC EV fast chargers for public use. The portfolio had expanded, which justified the additional role. As a Technical Product Manager I became more responsible for the technical alignment of new EV charger variants compared to existing chargers, the consistency of the portfolio from a technical (hardware) perspective and the software fit of existing software on new products. I started acting as a Product Owner for the software teams, to make sure a consistent software package would be able to run on any of the portfolio's chargers. I also kept participating in the change control board (to steer hardware and software changes).
Rijswijk, South Holland, Netherlands
Within ABB's Global Product Group EV Charging Infrastructure I was responsible for the series of DC EV fast chargers that are meant to be used in public infrastructure. As a product manager, I collected customer requirements, and translated those into product requirements for the public segment. I took part in the change control board (to steer hardware changes) and aligned with the software teams (for software developments and improvements), to continuously keep improving the product to keep up with the fast evolving EV charging market.
Epyon B.V. was acquired on 30 June 2011 by ABB. The activities of Epyon BV were integrated into ABB as the newly established Global Product Group EV Charging Infrastructure. The product group has global responsibility for the development, marketing and sales of charging solutions for the electric vehicle market. As interaction design engineer I was responsible for the full user experience of our DC fast charging station portfolio. This included GUI design, usability reviews of charging connectors, and the overall user flow within the context of use of the charging stations. In addition to that, I worked on user interaction design for supporting web applications for the EV fast charger portfolio.
