 Fulfills a critical role leading legal research and interpretation into state and federal laws and regulations governing the issuance of insured and self-insured group and individual major medical, ancillary products, Medicare and Medicare Supplement, and Preventive or Wellness Care. Defines corporate policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of regulatory filings with state insurance departments. Assumes a hands-on role preparing regulatory filings for submission to agencies for review and approval. Collaborates with management leadership as necessary to review, analyze, and resolve regulatory objections to contract filings. Drafts contracts and health insurance policies to clearly outline legal benefit obligations and sustain compliance with a complex network of administrative requirements as well as state and federal healthcare laws. Defines and establishes processes for the Summary of Benefits and Coverage for insured and self-insured groups. Takes all necessary steps to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, mitigate risk, and safeguard the company from liability. Serves as a primary point of contact with state and federal regulatory bodies and stakeholders, brokers, as well as, executive leaders from various areas of the company in analyzing and developing revisions to product filings to ensure compliance with laws and to ensure products remain competitive in the market. Develops regulatory strategies, interprets laws and data, and trains personnel, as well as other areas of the company to ensure they understand their responsibilities in complying with laws and regulations.  Serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, providing guidance and direction to executive leadership on cost-effective, efficient compliance strategies. Identifies instances of non-compliance and make recommendations for remedies.
