In 2019, Tele2NL and T-Mobile NL merged, to challenge the competition by combining Mobile and Fixed assets and products, Infrastructure and Radio Frequencies. In my role as Sr Technical Demand Manager for Infrastructure, I am proud to assist in achieving these goals. T-Mobile Netherlands has been awarded the 1st place in the annual Mobile Network Test in the Netherlands (by Umlaut)“ five years in a row, and in 2021 was even awarded the worldwide “best in test” by Umlaut.

As a result of re-imagining of the European Tele2 Shared Operations department in 2017, the responsibilities for designing and constructing cost- and energy-efficient Infrastructure were expanded to all European Tele2 subsidiaries, with focus on the Netherlands, Baltics and Sweden.

Tele2 operated as a 2G, 3G Virtual Network Operator. In 2012 Tele2 acquired the necessary frequencies to build a proprietary 4G Mobile Network. I joined Tele2 as Senior Designer Mobile Access at the very start of this project. Together with colleagues of Tele2 Sweden, and with a group of highly motivated professional colleagues in Tele2 Netherlands, we designed and constructed the world's first LTE-only MNO that launched in late in 2015. Personal responsibilities included the complete Infrastructure Specifications (Civil Works, Power systems, LPS, Documentation of Radio specifications) as well as Contract Management support.

Leading a team of approximately 10 professionals, in a nutshell my department was responsible to provide "in time" solutions for telecoms systems, civil works and energy management, radio frequency engineering, backhaul transmissions engineering for the RN strategy, RN Planning and RN deployment departments in T-Mobile. This was for existing network modernizations (GSM/E-GSM macro and nano platforms, UMTS macro and femto platforms, Microwave transmission) as well as new network developments and innovations(LTE platforms, Next Generation All-IP backhaul, wifi hotspots, other capacity and coverage challenges). Guiding the team toward excellence was combined with a close relationship towards the international T-Mobile / Deutsche Telekom environment.T-Mobile reorganized, the department dissolved into a larger unit.

Heading a successful small team of 5 engineers with responsibilities creating and maintaining the general specifications for building the T-Mobile GSM and UMTS mobile network roftop and hub sites, as well as the continuous pursuit of cost savings and innovation in the deployment of the network.

Working via the consultancy firm ATC, I joined T-Mobile in the Infrastructure department as a technical engineer. Main task: Reshaping several separate specification books into one central documentation set, all the time with an eye on rationalization and innovation. Understanding the civil works as well as the telecoms aspects in this complex equation contributed in making this a success.

Huawei secured their first Dutch turnkey contract in January 2005 for the rollout of the 3G network for Telfort. While setting up their local organization, I was asked to join as a engineer of turnkey planning; this was adapted soon after in the title "team leader of turnkey planning". Working with my chinese collegues, the innovative Huawei distributed UMTS NodeB equipment was described and introduced towards the local contractors and builders after careful alignment with Telfort and Ericsson (imcumbent supplier 2G equipment Telfort).

RANN was the joint venture between Orange NL and T-Mobile NL, created to rollout a common 3G network in the Netherlands. A common 3G site-build specification was created and implemented by me in close cooperation with the peers at the mothercompanies. Also a broad set of standard civil works details was set up in this process. My activities also included guidance of site engineers and support of the procurement department in selection of vendors and RfQ's.

Shortterm contract to help conclude the "Zerobase" project (re-arranging the FM broadcast frequencies, implicating extensive site adaptions and antenna changes). Utilizing my expertise, site design, materials ordering, build guidance and acceptance were combined with helping Nozema set up a new project of Wireless Local Loop deployment.

Skybernet was supplier of datacommunication services to business customers using Wireless Local Loop and Microwave Dish connections. Activities included site design, responsibility for site build and delivery, as well as development of standard detailing of civil works and telecoms cabinets.Skybernet changed its name to Iparix (after the aquisition of Winstar europe) and it continued under this name until december 2002, when the company closed its doors due to the changing market.

In 1997 Grontmij started a new devision Telecoms, where I joined as site engineer, designing the civil works for 2G telecoms sites for several Dutch operators. From 1998 onwards my tasks were expanded with quality control of the design and drafting department. In 1999 site acquisition was also an added activity.

For five years I worked as an independant architect on very diverse portfolio of remodelings and detached villas gaining knowledge and competence in design and civil works. Also in this period I worked as a freelance employee for Balans Architecten in Rotterdam, where I was involved with several complicated office interior projects for customers as KPN.
