I am currently working as an independent contractor consulting to various agencies and industries. I have been assisting development banks and clients with project review and implementation throughout South Africa and the SADEC region on local, regional and multinational projects. My roles have included permitting processes, project implementation plans and implementation guidance as well as ensuring environmental and social safeguards have been incorporated into the governance structures.

My role included project management of multidisciplinary teams. This involved project environmental management and integration of social, environmental and sustainability objectives. In October 2008 I was mobilised onto the HMG JV (a joint venture between Hatch, Mott McDonald & Goba) as the Environmental Manager on the Sishen Saldanha Oreline (port expansion) and appointed as the Employer’s Agent in terms of the NEC3 environmental contracts for Transnet Capital Projects. My role as Environmental Manager covered the environmental responsibilities for the entire port expansion (from a capacity of 38 Mtpa to 90 Mtpa) and this included management of consultants for environmental assessments, managing monitoring campaigns for marine water quality, air quality and construction management through several project phases. These phases included construction execution involving reclamation, dredging, construction of a Reverse Osmosis Plant, and management of one of the largest EIAs in South Africa as well as several smaller authorisation processes.

My role included environmental consulting in various fields. I was the project manager on scoping studies. During my time with SRK my role included conducting public participation, impact assessments, a visual assessment, ecological assessments, integrated wastewater management plans and sensitivity analyses. I participated in key projects ranging from EIAs and assessments for chloralkali plants, steel foundries, groundwater assessments for bulk supply, road upgrades, underground and above ground fuel storage and fuel stations, residential and housing developments, DWAF water use license applications, disaster management plans, transportation plans, beach development plans and flood line studies.
