Wellness Group Facilitator And Community AdvocateSelf Employed Dec 2007 - PresentMedford-Grants Pass AreaI am passionately dedicated to improving the lives of people in our community through education and support. We have made a tremendous difference in our community, while at the same time making meaningful connections. I have been a participant, coordinator, educator, advocate and advisor for various different programs and events over the years. Vagina Monologues, Sexual Health Awareness, The Health Reform, International Women’s day, Sexual Assault Victims Services Training and a Self-Defense workshop are just a few of the programs I have been involved with. To help make these programs successful I have talked to the newspaper, the local news, state senators, other community organizations and students to get them all involved. I have spent many hours creating signs, hanging fliers, handing out informational brochures, and making phone calls. To list all of the tools and systems I have used would fill this page. So, I will simply say, if I had the knowledge previously I have used it, if I didn’t know something I asked, and I always have had something to do and learn. Talking with people and encouraging them to be involved with our community is my primary objective. I have facilitated a wellness empowerment group since 2007. We meet weekly to discuss topics, important to members of the group, including; health, motherhood, stress relief, time management, relationship issues, responsible sexuality, community issues, etc. -

Crisis Advocacy - Confidential sexual misconduct reporting and provide resources for people in crisis situations. Provided support in time of crisis. I received several hundred hours of trainings from licensed counselors and social workers, as well as Community Works. My job was to be on call for the center and for any person in crisis. I was there to provide victim/survivor options for their situation and discuss what plan they would like to take. We came up with a safety plan/reporting plan together. I was there to support them during their time of need. I learned over time, to be very comfortable and confident in dealing with the emotional aspects of sexual assault advocacy, as well as legal and medical aspects that clients might have to encounter. I was trained on emergency procedures for the campus and surrounding community and became part of that supportive network. This opportunity is for SOU students. When I graduated the opportunity was passed on to new members. I transferred to off campus programs and continued to do this service for the community. I still assist in programs as a volunteer on occasion. -
