Continued economic and population growth are increasing demand for water while climate change and over-abstraction are threatening to reduce available supply in some areas or the world. Decision makers are tasked with developing appropriate water resource system plans that preserve the supply/demand balance at low economic cost and balance the water resource system benefits to different water users with minimal environmental and social implications. Designing such plans requires sophisticated decision support tools and frameworks.I am interested in water resource planning and management. My research and consulting work focuses on water scarcity problems and water systems planning and decision making under uncertainty in future conditions. My methods include using multi-objective optimisation and stochastic approaches with simulation models to study water resource system vulnerabilities and to design robust and resilient water systems.
