With over 17 years experience in information security in financial services, I have mastered the art of risk management.KNOW. RESPOND. ENABLE.Security practitioners should seek to securely enable the business. At the same time, they must answer to the board, executive management, regulators, auditors, clients, and prospective clients who expect nothing less than industry accepted security controls. When considering security solutions I first seek to know the environment and business objectives. Second, I identify the right controls to meet security requirements. Third, I ensure controls will have the intended effect with little or no negative impact to the business. This approach has enabled me to deliver multiple successful secured business solutions throughout my career.HOLISTIC SOLUTIONSSurrounding myself with smart people and collaborating on solving problems energizes me. Give me the opportunity to solve a problem and I’ll step up to the plate every time. I like to fix things and make them better and information security provides manifold opportunities for doing this.When assessing new technologies and developing solutions, I look beyond answers that simply impact information security. I identify solutions that will impact other areas of the business as a value add. I balance the risks of moving forward against the risks of not moving forward. Doing this and assessing the broader application of the solution and its impact on the business, I i have enhanced the bottom line and created efficiencies while improving the company's security posture. In my role as leader, I choose to take on the role of mentor providing the guardrails but allowing team members to own their solutions with little interference from me.
