I work as a Healthcare Assistant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. As a bank member of staff I am able to work across the hospital and have done so in the Emergency Department, surgical wards, general medical, oncology and cardiac units.

I undertook work experience and have subsequently continued to volunteer at Shottermill House, a care home specialising in dementia care. My volunteering at Shottermill House has deepened my understanding of dementia and how to best communicate and care for those living with this disease. For example, I have undertaken training to become an 'advocate for dementia' where I can teach others about the progression of the disease using the GEMS model and show people how to engage with our residents so they feel valued and able to express themselves throughout their time with us.

A live in au pair near Basel, Switzerland for 3 children aged 5,8 and 11 with a main role of teaching English as a foreign language.

I led and co-led swimming sessions for swimmers in our development and intermediate squads at GASC. This opportunity provided me with an understanding on how to deliver an engaging, challenging yet supportive session to our swimmers. I also found it insightful to see the challenges facing younger children today when they would often confide or ask for advice from us as their coaches. I felt empowered in this role to ensure my swimmers had the confidence to pursue their wishes and to ensure I enabled them to push beyond their comfort zones- this experience emphasised to me the importance of good leadership and trust in relationships.
