About Evren Wilder Elliott

Evren Wilder Elliott (he/they) loves to tell stories. He is a transgender artist, facilitator, and organizer who uses theater and imaginative play to explore the contradictions within ourselves and our world and how we might engage in creating an equitable community. Evren serves as Co-President on the Board of Directors of Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed, Inc., an international organization that supports people whose work challenges oppressive systems by promoting critical thinking and social justice through liberatory theatre and popular education, and he led the organization of their annual international conference in Indianapolis this past June. Evren also works as a collaborative policy strategist, conspiring with groups to build innovative, collaborative policy from the ground-up. This work is deeply inspired by his years of training in jokering and TO facilitation from Julian Boal and other teachers and storytellers from around the world. He has been named a recipient of the Power Plant Grant from Big Car Collaborative, with funds made possible by The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts, for his project "Imagining Home - Liberatory Theatre and Speculative Solutions for Housing Justice". He has also received support for his work through grants provided by the Indiana Arts Commission, such as the Individual Advancement Program and the On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator. Currently, Evren is working on Strategic Planning with the Inter-Cooperative Council of Ann Arbor, serves as a community advisor for the Indy East Promise Neighborhood, and facilitates a trans and nonbinary support group at Damien Center, among other community endeavors. You can join him in November at the Monroe County Childhood Conditions Summit, presenting a workshop titled, "Harnessing Joy, Play, and Creativity to Build Power with Young People".
