About Ewan Maxwell

My career in Product Design has spanned a period of nearly 30 years and I have gained a wealth of experience and inspiration working on a huge range of diverse products, rubbing shoulders with many talented designers and interesting clients along the way.I have always had a strong desire to fix, improve or make from scratch the products in my world. This desire at an early age gave me a grounding in "how things work".My first design roles with MFD and then Greaves Best Design in Southampton, allowed me to utilise my very hands-on approach to design and engineering which has stayed with me to this day.Forth Product Design (FPD) is where I honed my skills in detailed part design for injection moulding and managing projects from concept to reality. Latterly at FPD I was promoted to Design Director.i4 Product Design Ltd was founded in 2003 by myself and 3 colleagues. I have enjoyed working with numerous clients; one highlight being a long and fruitful relationship with Flymo, completing in excess of 20 products over a 10 year period.As Technical Director of i4 I currently Design Lead for a variety of i4’s clients' projects – overseeing the design work / critiquing / motivating / guiding the vision / developing working practices.It is not in my nature to be complacent and I seek out new insights and pragmatic approaches to help our clients achieve their objectives.

As one of i4’s several Design Leads for clients I am able to combine my experience of both early stage concept development through all stages of detailed design through to verification and production support.I believe it is crucial to clarify and capture a client’s product requirements to ensure the best outcomes and ensure a product meets its test criteria.The client’s timeline is imperative and this is set-out clearly at the outset of each project. As a company we are proud to have a strong record of delivering completed projects within sometimes aggressive timelines. This is because we appreciate the demands on our client to reach the market as soon as possible.Early identification of challenges / snag points helps reduce the project time lines. I enjoy working as a cohesive team to offer a variety of solutions that consider the cost, quality and time implications.Besides my design responsibilities I also look after the facilities, which included in 2014 the planning and relocation of the business to i4's new offices and our Design Lab with 3D printer.
