He oversees major bridges in SW Scotland for Transport Scotland, including Erskine & Kingston Bridges and is engineering lead on the Severn Bridges contract for Highways England, including Severn & Prince of Wales BridgesEwan was Major Bridges Director on the Forth Bridges Operating Contract, taking responsibility for engineering and technical matters associated with keeping Forth Road Bridge and Queensferry Crossing open, safe and resilient. Ewan led the Design & Technical team who repaired and reopened the Forth Road Bridge repair after the Dec 2015 emergency closure. He led the engineering team dealing with icing events on Queensferry Crossing in 2020 and continues to work on developing monitoring and prediction processes and longer term solutions.He has a strong interest in digitally enabled smart bridges and has led the development & deployment of industry and world leading digital asset management systems on the Forth Road Bridges. The structural health monitoring, data analytics platform & asset information and condition database developed by Amey and deployed on these bridges are the most advanced on any major cable supported bridges in the world, using machine learning & artificial intelligence based predictive analytics, and automated reporting and smart alerts, leading to self-monitoring bridgesEwan also conceived the FRB Critical Elements Programme, a systematic, complex programme of studies, investigations, assessments, interventions & monitoring, designed to understand and mitigate the risk of similar failure to the 2015 truss end link. Ewan has a strong background in structural behaviour analysis and modelling. During the last 5years he developed a high-performing, experienced and capable long span bridges team at the Forth Bridges. This team have capability similar to that of world-leading consultants in this area. Amey has a self-sufficient modelling team at FRB & Queensferry Crossing. The team can provide the specialist non-linear global analysis needed to support assessment, design, strengthening, modification and renewal projects

Ewan joined Amey in 2007 from Sweco and was been involved in a wide range of major infrastructure projects with Amey and the wider Ferrovial group. Ewan was responsible for the Amey team carrying out the Design and Site Supervision of the New Works on the £400M M8 M73 M73 DBFO Motorway Improvements project. The project included 63 new or modified structures including several major structures. Ewan also led the Amey design team as part of a wider Ferrovial group bid for the £500M Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, including many major structures.
