Hi there I'm Ewan, a strategic transformation leader in Financial Services. - I work with Banks to implement group wide digital transformation programmes - I help companies harness and develop their Conversational AI strategies- I work as a strategic adviser to FinTech leadership teams & CVC teams- I'm external faculty at the London Institute of Banking & Finance offering executive education on AI, FinTech & Open Banking- I am a regular TikTokker offering career development tips and advice I'm a Chief Transformation Officer with a track record delivering technology, digital and cultural change in large organisations in the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East. At Sohar International Bank in Oman, I was Chief Transformation Officer, leading the bank's transformation agenda, including all information technology/core, cyber security, digital, programme management, marketing, FinTech & Open Banking, AI/Data, innovation, customer experience & process re-engineering. Before this, I was Chief Digital Officer at Nordea Bank, the largest systemically important bank in Northern Europe. I was responsible for conceiving and driving the bank's 3-year digital transformation plan. I championed the introduction of AI, ML, data analytics and the move to the cloud (front and back office). I also established Nordea Ventures to invest directly into FinTechs to underpin and support the bank's franchises. I've led digital change agendas for companies such as Royal Bank of Scotland, Nationwide Building Society and the global events giant, Reed Exhibitions. I was born in Scotland, moved to England aged 9 and grew up near London. I finished my studies at University College London in 1999, then founded a dotcom startup, raised $1m and proceeded to spend my twenties and early thirties building several successful digital service start-ups. As a result, I am thoroughly experienced in driving a transformative narrative along with delivery, strategy, programme management and getting things done, on time, on budget and managing varied stakeholders from board level down. Although I can speak plain English, I'm also a total geek. I was practising DevOps and SaaS before they were terms we all knew. I’m a coder - I’m more or less fluent in PHP and I wrote the code for all of my start-ups myself using the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack - some of which supported millions of users and transactions. You can find me online writing for: - Conversational AI News- FinTech Profile

Founder & EditorMobile Industry Review Apr 2009 - Jun 2010After finishing my contract commitments at First Data, I took the opportunity to travel to San Francisco to closely study the growth of the emerging next generation mobile ecosystem. The pendulum was just beginning to swing from the Nordics (Nokia) to the Bay Area in the United States with the launch of Android and the growth of iPhone. I’d been writing a blog in my spare time since 2006 called Mobile Industry Review and from April onwards, I based myself in San Francisco, traveling all across the region to meet founders and executives to understand what was driving the growth of the marketplace. I chronicled the growth of this nascent industry with daily posts on the site and leveraged it to help me meet some of the brightest and most influential leaders in the region. There was still a lot happening in the UK and Europe so I was regularly back in London watching developments there too. App developers were just beginning to establish themselves as viable companies. Transactions were beginning to take place on mobile through these new things called ‘apps’. BlackBerry and Nokia still absolutely dominated the smartphone world, despite the first generation of iPhone being available for about a year at this point. At it’s peak, the website attracted 250,000 readers a month from around the mobile industry. It wasn’t long before I was drawn back into a daily position though. You can still find the website online at www.mobileindustryreview.com. I now publish occasionally - usually whenever I'm inspired by a new product launch! -

I was reporting to the CIO and responsible for providing and promoting technology innovation, rapid application development and mobile technology services to the business.A thoroughly exciting opportunity to learn how the financial ecosystem works first hand with this leading credit card processor. Working at First Data helped me understand the nuances of delivery in a regulated environment where payment innovation is prized and where delivering millions of transactions in a seamless manner is normal.(This was a contract position) -
Co-FounderEventscope Online Networking Sep 2003 - Sep 2008I co-founded this company to address a key problem I'd always come across at events: Finding the right people to meet, easily and effectively.Event organisers rarely want to part with their contact list -- this is viewed as business confidential. However as a paying attendee I had an expectation that I should be able to at least see who was attending and perhaps send them a message prior, during or after the event. I worked out a process that enables the event organiser to retain the control the need over their data, whilst enabling attendees to view key portions of the data (Firstname, Lastname, Company name, Job title). Further, if you found someone you wanted to connect with, you could use a form to immediately send them a message. Event organisers loved it. Eventscope has since provided networking facilities for thousands of events.I programmed the first two versions of Eventscope myself before handing it over to a dedicated development team. I really, really valued the ability to be in a client meeting at 10am receiving feedback on the product and then being able to actually code that update and then have it deployed for testing by 5pm. -
Founder & Chief ExecutiveNeo One Software Jan 1998 - Jun 2007I founded this startup to provide interactive services (chatrooms, discussion forums, content moderation services) for large brands stepping into the internet for the first time. Co-Founder & CtoLiv4Now.Com Jan 1999 - Sep 2003Together with my co-founder, we raised $1.3m in 1999 to establish a daily entertainment online community and magazine aimed at the UK's 18-25s. We hired an editorial team from some of the best publications around and worked with them to craft a fantastic, ground-breaking online community offering.Ultimately, this was a proof-of-concept demonstration for the clients of the company's B2B division (Neo One).I was initially CTO and head of the community services consulting practice before becoming CEO.
