Eric Wemhoff Work Experience Details
  • Symbotic
    Principal Robotic Controls Engineer
    Symbotic 2024 - Present
    Wilmington, Ma, Us
  • Magna International
Team Lead - Software Engineering, Motion Controls
    Magna International 2022 - 2023
    Aurora, Ontario, Ca
Led Planning and Controls software team of four at Magna Advanced Development Center, developing Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) features. During this time worked on trained parking and autopark functions. Developed system which met given functional and performance requirements related to behavioral, planning, and control components. Team delivered high-functioning prototype system, implemented in C++ and ROS, including: vehicle longitudinal and lateral control, path planning and smoothing, ultrasonic sensor-based collision object detection and response behaviors, state machine executing high-level feature behavior, human-machine interface, and visualization tools. Worked around a number of significant development challenges to move forward with on-vehicle development of these. Developed interim mapping and localization solution using dead reckoning, and developed integration plan for vision-based M&L solution. Also performed troubleshooting of issues discovered during implementation of autopark features, and investigation of opportunities to improve code and coding practices for a broader array of ADAS features. Worked with ROS, C++, Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, CarMaker, dSPACE MicroAutoBox, Vector CANoe.
  • Gpr
    Senior Motion Planning Engineer
    Gpr Jul 2021 - Nov 2022
    Somerville, Massachusetts, Us
Performed algorithm and software development in self-driving automobile sector. GPR is a startup developing a novel mapping and localization solution for AVs which uses ground-penetrating radar. I implemented a demonstration of the technology, in which it is used to provide localization feedback for a self-driving vehicle. Developed ROS-based system to operate the vehicle effectively using GPR's new M&L technology, which has certain unique characteristics. GPR uses the resulting prototype autonomous vehicle (AV) to demonstrate its tech to partners and customers.
  • Scientific Systems Company, Inc
    Senior Research Engineer
Scientific Systems Company, Inc Apr 2008 - Aug 2021
Projects typically involve physics-based modeling, simulation, and trade studies using Matlab or C++; flight data collection with manned or unmanned aircraft; algorithm development; onboard software implementation in C++; and testing. On larger projects that I support I have typically provided signal processing, planning/autonomy algorithm development, or performance analyses. On projects which I PI, I am usually involved in every aspect, from high level (developing solution concepts in response to DoD agency solicitations; program planning; managing awarded programs with small teams including academic and industrial partners; conceiving solution approaches; summarizing results; performing customer briefings; writing final reports); to mid-level (designing and organizing field data collection exercises; algorithm development in a scripting language such as Matlab or python; implementation of finalized software in C++ for onboard systems deployment; to lower-level (assembling system prototypes including small vehicles, sensors, and onboard processor; ordering equipment; maintaining vehicles and other hardware; configuring systems for operation; executing data collects; organizing and processing collected data).
  • Bae Systems
    Senior Research Engineer
    Bae Systems Jul 2004 - Mar 2008
    London, Gb
    • Data fusion for prognostics and health management (PHM). Designed and implemented (Matlab) simulation and particle filtering application (Java) for estimating the health state of machinery given indirect, multi-sensor observations. Developed model of dynamics of meshing gears, including elasticity and deformation mechanics, in order to simulate and visualize vibration, and evaluate proposed fault detection approaches (Matlab). Applications to Navy and Air Force aerial platforms and propulsion systems. Performed as project manager on Phase II SBIR research programs.• Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) change detection and image processing. Performed performance analyses of coherent SAR radar change detection algorithms (generating ROC curves). Improved image processing algorithms to extract features from SAR images, including vehicles, vehicle tracks and footprints.
