As the lead administrator, my role was to facilitate the daily operations and parent communications for the K-8th grade program. Some accomplishments in this position include: establishing school-wide data teams with weekly meetings; meeting with teachers to set individual performance plans; evaluating teacher performance and weekly informal observations; communicating monthly with the Board of Directors on the academic and cultural progress of the Academy and facilitating monthly parent meetings and events.

My role as instructional coach was in monitoring the curriculum and instruction in the K-8 program and providing coaching to teachers to improve their instructional practice. Some accomplishments in this role included: an overall 30% increase in student proficiency gains school-wide; leading the Advance-Ed site visit that lead to our school receiving full accreditation for the first time; leading the Title I site visit; School Improvement Chair for 2 years; establishing a New Teacher Academy as a mentoring program for new teachers; established student learning maps in K-8 classrooms.

As an elementary teacher in Kindergarten, First, Fourth and Fifth grade, I taught language arts and social studies in an inclusive setting with students in Detroit. As a team leader, I communicated with and assisted teachers in a variety of roles, such as coordinator of the child study/special education referral team for 6 years; lead Response to Intervention Committee; Trained staff on using writing workshop in the K-6th grade classroom which lead to doubling the writing MEAP scores for 4th grade; 75% of students scoring in the proficient range of Spring Benchmark consistently; Created the Back to School Kick Off celebration which connected families to community resources and created an improved school climate; helped establish, lead and be a Mentor in mentoring organization for middle school girls.
