I worked freelance, partly because it suited me at the time and partly because it gave me freedom to channel my energies down specific avenues of interest. Initially these revolved around specific web-based projects, which led to my involvement with the setting up, hosting and management of a range of websites. With my goals in this arena nearing completion, I began to focus more on the area of IT security, a topic that has held my fascination since my early computer days, and one in which I am very passionate!In terms of IT knowledge, ability and (most importantly) experience, I am a jack-of-most-trades and a master-of-many! As such, I specialise in general IT support, network / IT infrastructure management, cyber security consulting, website establishment and management (primarily using the DNN content management system, but also WordPress, Joomla, etc.), website and email hosting, and training. I hold current CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ certifications. I also completed a Certified Ethical Hacker (penetration tester) course, qualifying for a CEH from the EC-Council, but this has now lapsed as I don't require the certification in my current role - just the experience!

In the early years of my involvement with this company (called Uniway Computer Centre at that time), I was employed as a computer consultant, with my role being to recommend and supply bespoke IT solutions to clients that would meet their unique IT requirements. After stepping aside from this position to pursue my web-based projects, Uniway kept me on (under contract) as a systems assessor and advisor in their insurance assessment division, dealing mostly with their more complicated server/network-oriented claims. This division has since grown to become the primary focus of the organisation, and their entire operation runs on the bespoke intranet that I built, and continue to maintain and upgrade, for them.

I was primarily involved with the Physics Department at the College, although I also taught mathematics to junior and senior classes as well as general ICT to junior classes and more advanced computer science (including C++ programming) to senior classes.

I taught mathematics and physics to all levels, including an advanced mathematics class (1st year university level), but my primary role was establishing an ICT curriculum from the ground up to cater for all levels of the College, including staff development. Also, as IT Manager for the College, I built their network up from almost nothing to a world-class facility with 3 file servers, 70+ workstations, broadband internet access through Rhodes University, a 700 metre fibre optic link to the neighbouring girls' school, and specific software/hardware facilities for desktop publishing, AutoCAD and the management of the College Library.

Most of my efforts here revolved around setting up and managing their IT suite and establishing a workable ICT curriculum. However, I also taught mathematics and physics up to school-leaving level.
