J. Morgan Micheletti, MD, FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and complex anterior segment surgery. He was named to the Best Cataract Surgeons in America, recognized as Castle Connolly Top Doctor, received an award for Incredible Innovation and Scientific Contribution from RWO, and was named to the top 40 under 40 list of ophthalmologists in the United States.He attended UT Austin, where he graduated with High Honors and Special Honors in Biology. In addition to being an honors scholar, he earned multiple endowed presidential scholarships, was a Distinguished College Scholar, and was selected as an inaugural member in the Freshman Research Initiative, where he worked in RNA aptamer research in Ellington Lab.He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as the president of the Ophthalmology Interest Group. He also served as an elected class officer and as a representative on the Medical Student Council. He completed his internship at Emory before starting residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Emory Eye Center. While at Emory, he published multiple peer-reviewed articles and served as an Advocacy Ambassador with the American Academy of Ophthalmology.He returned to Houston in 2018 and joined Berkeley Eye Center, where his focus includes surgical correction of presbyopia, refractive surgery, cataract surgery, and interventional glaucoma. He is the Director of Research and an investigator on numerous clinical trials. He is an innovator who has created multiple surgical instruments with 5 patent pending devices at present. He has developed novel approaches to surgical challenges such as the “punch and rescue” technique for dislocated IOLs and the modified twist and out technique for IOL exchange, both of which were published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the AAO, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He serves on the AAO ONE Network Cataract Committee and the Young Eye Surgeons committee for the ASCRS. He serves on the board of directors for the Society of Excellence in Eyecare (SEE) and as a member of the Health Policy Committee. He is an active member of AECOS and serves as the chair of the Research Committee, the Texas Ophthalmological Association, and the Houston Ophthalmological Society. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, woodworking, snowboarding, and golf.
