D.Sc In Automatic ControlCinvestav-Ipn, Automatic Control Department Sep 2011 - Jan 2015MexicoMy thesis solves some problems for autonomous navigation in unstructured environments: 1.- For map-building, we propose a novel method based on ellipsoidal sets that can solve large-scale problems, unlike other methods based on sets. Its performance is similar to, and in some cases better than, the method based on a Kalman filter. Some real experiments show it is capable of building maps indoors and outdoors.2.- For planning, we introduce and study the fundamental concepts of Known Space, FreeSpace and Unknown Space Assumptions to deal with the partial observability of environment.These assumptions are needed to navigate in dynamic and unknown environments. Fordynamic environments, we propose the first two methods to recover from false obstacles in the map and make the robot continue searching for its goal.
