❖ Used machine learning models to expedite discoveries of novel materials: ● To accelerate the discovery of new superconducting materials which are crucial for lossless electricity transmission, developed a Superconductor Predictor employing a Neural Network architecture. The Neural Network classifier predicts whether materials exhibit superconductivity based on 7 readily accessible physical properties at room temperature with a Precision score of 0.72 and a Recall score of 0.77. The results were presented at the 2020 annual meeting of the American Physical Society. ● To identify topological materials from their spectra, we developed a spectral indicator for topological materials. The model is a neural network classifier predicting materials to be topological or not from their X-ray absorption spectroscopies. Results were published in Advanced Materials.❖ Developed next-generation thermoelectric and semiconductor materials: ● Led the discovery of a record-high thermoelectric power factor among all materials. Results were published in Nature Communications. ● Participated in the discovery of “the best semiconductor of them all”, boron arsenide, which processes extremely high mobility and thermal conductivity. Results were published in Science.❖ Published more than 10 articles on top journals.

❖ Overcame the diffraction effect of slits and developed X-ray optics for focusing hard X-ray beam to micrometer level at the second brightest X-ray facility in the world. Took X-ray diffraction images of crystal materials under extreme conditions which usually result in limited “angle of view” for data acquisition, and proposed crystal structures of the materials from incomplete datasets.❖ To assess materials’ ability to withstand external pressures, calculated their compressibility factors from X-ray spectra obtained under various pressures with Monte Carlo simulations, and predicted their bulk moduli.❖ Published more than 10 articles in top journals.
