Just as I had successfully completed my pilot training in the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented me from getting into the cockpit of an airliner. So what now?As a pilot, I have learned to deal with difficult situations and make informed decisions. To twiddle my thumbs and hope that the aviation industry would recover quickly? That didn't seem right to me - pilots don't wait around and hope things will work out. I wanted to take the controls myself and be active.Besides flying, I have always been interested in everything IT-related - be it digital image editing, web design or spreadsheets. Entering this future-oriented IT industry sounded very promising.To this day, I don't regret the decision to become a pilot, nor the decision to further my professional education. Rather, I see it as an opportunity and am grateful to have gained so much experience in the two most exciting fields I know: aviation and IT.I currently work as a DevOps Engineer in the IT department of the City of Munich. On the side, I regularly maintain my pilot's licence.
