My passion in life is connecting with people and making a positive change in my workplace and community. Respect, compassion and humour are qualities I believe to be invaluable in every environment. I want to use my background and skills in therapeutic recreation as a member of an interdisciplinary team to empower people living with disabilities and/or mental health challenges with the skills they need to be successful.For over five years, I have been able to pursue this passion working as a community support worker supporting clients with diverse range of needs, including those with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges and co-occurring disorders. I am confident many of the skills I have gained in this role will be an asset in the therapeutic recreation field, especially my ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues, being adept at interpreting and using verbal/non-verbal communication strategies while using creativity to overcome challenges. I am especially passionate about advocating for and facilitating accessibility and accommodations for people living with disabilities so they can reach their full potential.
