Responsibilities:• Develop and execute a survey that will be used to create a neighbourhood profile, assess community needs, and identify community assets, capacity and resources to enhance the development of the Lakeshore Arts Strategic Plan• Training volunteers to assist with data collection through participatory art intervention• Data analysis• Preparing a final report

Research Project: Mothers in Mind Study Research Partner: Child Development InstituteProject Lead: Dr. Josephine Mazzuca, Humber CollegeMothers in Mind is a program for women who have experienced trauma from abusive relationships or other life experiences and also have a child under the age of four. The research team conducted a series of qualitative interviews with women who have recently participated in the program in order to understand what impact participation in the program has had on their parenting, relationships with their children, self-esteem, and social isolation. The facilitators were asked about their opinions on the training they received through Child Development Institute (CDI) and their experiences leading the groups. The findings from the study discovered that the mothers who attended the Mothers in Mind group saw an increase in their self-esteem and a decrease in their social isolation. Responsibilities:• Coordinate data collection activities to establish and evaluate the relationship between a parenting program (Mothers in Mind) developed by Child Development Institute and its results• Conduct semi-structured qualitative interviews in person and over the phone; transcribe interview files; analyze interview data using qualitative data management software, HyperRESEARCH• Assist in the writing of program evaluation report adhering to professional writing standards while making sound recommendations regarding the current service• Support Project Lead with various study operations and monitoring of project progress by ensuring deadlines are being strictly met

Research Project: Picturing Foster CarePrincipal Investigator: Dr. Janet Parsons, St. Michael's HospitalThis project used photo-voice methodology to study experiences of child custody loss and its implications for perinatal health care delivery from the perspectives of three groups of stakeholders – young parents with experiences of homelessness, child welfare workers, and health care professionals – in order to identify barriers to perinatal health care. Understanding these perspectives will be essential to designing improvements in practice and policy.Responsibilities:• Carrying out descriptive content analysis using NVivo 9 software for data management, including structuring and organization of data for a qualitative research study• Performing thorough data accuracy checks to maintain data integrity • Contributing to knowledge translation and mobilization activities pertaining to the study for effective research dissemination • Tracking study participants by developing an extensive demographic spreadsheet on Excel• Taking detailed field notes during semi-structured qualitative interviews • Ensuring all day-to-day study objectives were met efficiently (e.g., data collection, assisted with planning workshops)• Organizing and securely storing all research documentation and data• Conducting literature searches on PubMed and PsychINFO to avail various articles related to the research study• Actively engaging in and contributing to the community-based participatory research process by attending weekly team meetings and photo-voice workshops
