On the one hand, I served as personal advisor to the Chilean Minister of Social Development in economic and statistical issues. This included writing reports on issues like unemployment, inequality and minimum wage, aimed to inform the Minister on particular issues, and contribute to the decision making process.On the other hand, I served as technical advisor to the Commission for the Update of the Poverty Line. An ad-hoc expert commission summoned by the President himself with the purpose of assessing the validity of the current official poverty line, and proposing an updated measure. Here, among other things, I had the task of surveying the existing literature on income poverty measurements, performing complex statistical calculation using large expenditure and price databases at the request of the senior members, and develop a proposal for the income poverty line. As of 2016, the income part of the current poverty measure is, as a matter of fact, the result of this work. Show less
