Software Engineer/Data Scientist At Social Incubation
I moved to work on Incubation projects in the social space (while continuing to be part of Bing). As part of a small team, working with researchers from MSR I would be looking at the social experiences and see how can we increase the user engagement and make our search engine better for social scenarios. Our project just got 6 million $ funding.
Software Engineer/Data Scientist At Bing Data Mining Team
Bot DetectionI am specifically assigned the primary responsibility of detecting bots (a.k.a bot detection) for Bing and Yahoo. I have been through 2 release cycles shipping delivering high quality, high impact deliverables. I have numerous patents filed based on my work (keep tuned in). I am proud to be among the few members with distinguished contributions to the team for Neon milestone for guidance on bot detection.Bots are automated programs that surf the internet websites for gathering data and can be malicious or benign. Either way they result in - distorting the user metrics (which essentially means all our calculations for user behavior, market segment and query segment can be skewed) and - consuming our time and efforts (that could have been used to serve the users) to serve the bots.I am member of the first-response team to look into live site issues involving bots that include:- suspicious traffic investigation, - spam analysis, - user behavior analysis, - novel traffic analysis, - query analysis, - session analysis,- user engagement metrics analysis,- traffic pattern identification for Bing and Yahoo. We interact with host of other partners and collaborate with other teams in sharing the knowledge base and looking at common issues.
Research Assistant
- My thesis is on "Human Group Behavior Analysis in Virtual Worlds", concerning the social network mining, social network analysis, community analysis and dialog analysis (NLP) aspects. I have also worked on Social Recommendation Systems for Virutal Worlds and Destination Prediction for Virtual Worlds.- I was on the program committee for AAAI - FLAIRS 2011 conference and also on the program committee for FLAIRS 2012. I am also tasked with reviewing research papers for other conferences as part of my responsibilities as well.
Teaching Assistant
I have been a Teaching Assitant for Introduction to Computer Programming and Computer Architecture, with the responsibilities for conducting the lab sessions for the students, grading the tests and sometimes also conducting in-class lectures. My responsibilities also included preparing material for adding to the understanding and development of the course objectives for the students, conducting one-on-one and group sessions for helping students with difficulties, encouraging group-work and solving common problems.
Sde/Sdet Intern With The Bing Data Mining Team
With the Bing Data Mining team i was responsible for developing software for offline analysis of the trends, useful for day-to-day analytics or anomaly detection for the data collection pipeline, including provisions for higher level analysis (deep drive) and visualization (at the database and cube level with prototype development for raw logs). I am proud to be of the few interns given the chance to demo to the SVP Bing, Satya Nadella.
