I love solving problems and building stuff – that’s the sentence that describes me to a tee.Competitive Programming –I was introduced to competitive programming in my first year and it made me realize my love for problem-solving. Many hours of the next three years would be spent in front of my laptop scratching my head trying to think of a solution to a problem. Competitive programming has contributed immensely to my understanding of fundamental concepts and I can say without a doubt that it has made me a better problem-solver.Object-oriented Software Development –In my second year, I made ‘HeroQuest’ a 2D tile-based adventure game as part of our OOP lab’s java project. Following a tutorial, I implemented display and basic game loop. I soon realized just how powerful OOP was. I felt comfortable enough to stop following the tutorials after a while and started building my own stuff. I implemented collision detection, loot system, animation, AI pathfinding, input, music, quest and inventory system completely on my own. Making HeroQuest made me appreciate the power of object-oriented design and software design patterns.Machine Learning and Research –In my third year, I built a painting art-style detector. The experience endeavored me to choose ‘Visual Question Answering’ as my final year thesis. VQA is at the forefront of current computer vision research. In VQA, an AI has to answer questions about an image correctly.Motivation –Choosing to study computer science was one of my best decisions. I don’t think any other field could have made me more excited to constantly learn and discover new things. The only thing I love more than learning something new is explaining what I’ve learned and sharing my knowledge with others. That’s why I volunteered to mentor a group of 12 first-year students throughout my second and third years and helped them get into the wonderful world of competitive programming. I am always open to learning from others more experienced than me. In an ever-changing field like ours, it’s important to always keep yourself open to new experiences and I am looking forward to all the new opportunities that await me.Please check out my resume to get a better idea of my skills and what I have to offer.
