My career began like most do, as a means to some self-serving end, so naturally, I initially pursued what presented as the most expedient path to that end. It was not until I found fulfillment, meaning, and purpose in serving others that my career began to align with this purpose, and thankfully is now an end in itself. A passion to effect lasting beneficial change in others’ experience of work and life. Although I do deeply appreciate the vast cumulative education and experience afforded to me by so many over the past 20 years, I am most grateful for the many opportunities to nurture and develop others. It is from this, that I have derived the most personal and professional satisfaction and in doing so invoked a deep interest in leadership theory.The privilege of effecting positive change in the lives of others has been my life’s honor, which has matured to become the key motivator in my aspirations as an individual. The past several years have brought with it a great opportunity to be part of many organizational transformation journeys across multiple industries. Through the facilitation of live and online leadership development programs and individual and group coaching interventions across all levels, we’ve been able to help many overcome the myriad of challenges they’ve faced in achieving their individual as well as organizational goals. All while creating empowering and collaborative work environments, in which they were able to bring out the best in their people by establishing legitimate relationships of trust; engaging their willingness; aligning and refining their contribution; cultivating accountability in them, and ultimately awakening them to their potential.This change is always predicated on helping the leader shift their attention from what they are trying to get from their people to what they should be given to them instead. They begin to genuinely care for their people and can only hold them appropriately accountable while pushing them to realize the best in themselves. Although much benefit is derived and affirmed by these leaders, I am always most gratified by the profound difference experienced in the lives of their people and by extension the customers whom they serve.Having genuinely loved every engagement in which I’ve been able to immerse myself in the client’s organization, enough at least to have made deep meaningful connections with their exceptional people. These connections have certainly been the highlight of my career, and I thus look forward to even greater immersion and depth of connection in future service.
