I am a pioneer team member of army liver transplant program since the first transplant in January 2016. I am part of the core transplant team. I am involved in provision of post transplant critical care to the all the 40 plus paediatric transplants done at our unit so far. This included post transplant ventilation, fluids and electrolytes management, inotropic support, immunosuppression, dealing with immediate post op complications like sepsis, rejection, biliary leaks, HAT etc. By virtue of working with international transplant teams from UK and China, and local renowned mentor of many liver transplant surgeons in Pakistan, Dr Faisal Dar of PKLI from Pakistan. I believe I have an adequate exposure of post transplant care of paediatric patients and I am learning and improving the protocols and skills as the program is growing.

As part of improving the experience in post op critical care of children, I was sent by my employer to china for fellowship training at National GI diseases, hepatobiliary and transplant Research institute, ar Beijing friendship hospital. BCH was one of the biggest living donor liver transplant centre. It was headed by prof Zhou, the leading transplant surgeon of his country. It was a great opportunity to had first hand knowledge of post op care of paediatric living liver transplants. It specifically included learning the ventilation strategies, early extubation strategies, coagulopathy targets, immediate post op complications management, immunosuppression protocols, use of CRRT in paeditric patients are the few highlights of the training. I Brought the knowledge back to my country for application/ make changes in our program protocols which is truly only living donor program. Will be looking forward for another opportunity for a more extended period to master the complexities of post op care of liver transplant patients.

I am working as consultant paeds intensivist at this tertiary care, Central referral and teaching hospital of Pakistan Army. I am looking after the 10 bedded PICU and also responsible for Paeds intensive care at Army liver transplant unit, Military hospital. In addition I am an assistant professor on teaching faculty of army medical college, and involved in teaching and training of undergraduate, postgraduate programmes.In PICU the bulk of admissions are of respiratory, cardiovascular and renal failures requiring mechanical ventilation, inotropic supports, Central venous access, peritoneal and hemodialysis, plasmaelectrophoresis, sedation, analgesia and parental nutritional support. In addition we take post-op paediatric surgical patients and neurosurgical post-op patients randomly over and above our capabilities and resources. At liver transplant unit I am responsible for the preop transplant feasibility of the recepient and in Post op care of the paediatric transplant patients. This includes ventilation, inotropic support, fluids and electrolytes balance, immunosupression, infection control and nutritional support.In addition I am examiner at college of physicians and surgeons Pakistan and involved in fellowship exams as examiner, paper setter, and paper checkers.

I always owe my success and performance at present location to my learning at AKUH.
