The specific skills the Programming and Communications Assistant will develop through their work on the Storytelling and Communication in Heritage project include:• Digital design and layout: Working on redesign and layout of The OHS Bulletin; developing member spotlight stories, developing communication materials to promote programming and activities.• Heritage preservation practices: Developing content related to best practices for grassroots heritage groups and community museums.• Print design and layout: Working on research for the redesign and layout of The OHS Bulletin.• Written communication and proof-reading: Working on The OHS Doors Open Interpretation Pieces; developing spotlight stories of the OHS history, developing materials to showcase during Doors Open.• Membership and stakeholder relations: Conducting consultations/surveys with OHS members and stakeholders over the phone or in person, corresponding with OHS Committee members and staff.• Program development & Outreach: Researching OHS members’ in-person programs and digital assets for history education and community engagement.• Metrics/data evaluation: Studying current and past metrics on outreach, membership, and audience size. Comparing and contrasting with results from new projects.

Reporting to the Senior Curator, Learning and Interpretation, the Learning and Engagement Assistant supports City-wide interpretive planning efforts and relationship building with audiences and community partners. This position will have the opportunity to work closely with senior staff on a major change initiative for the Museums of Hamilton, focused on interpretation and community engagement.

- Supporting the recruitment, hiring and training of staff.- Assisting with the coordination and facilitation of camp staff training and orientation.- Coordinating and assigning staff work teams.- Coordinating and directing all facility and location per-camp set-up and post-camp clean-up/take-down.- Responsible for program planning, general safety and overall enjoyment of the patrons attending.Coordinating daily program operations including customer relations, guidance and leading camp staff.

- Expanding leadership through group management training as an appointed group leader and engaged/led detail-orienting and precise program planning and scheduling - Developing problem-solving and decision-making skills through increased interactions with other group leaders, coworkers, and management team- Appling teamwork and communication skills toward supporting group staff and other coworkers
