I was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician for 10 years, working primarily in the private sector of patient transport. I spent a little over three years in Nursing School as well. I have worked some in sales during breaks in college, primarily, earning recognition for being a top salesperson. I graduated from Sinclair Community College in 06/06 with an A.A.S. I went on to finish my Bachelor's degree online through Bowling Green State University. It is a Liberal Studies Degree. However, most of my courses are in the sciences and nursing. I am, at present, furthering my education by going to school for my MBA in Health Care Administration. I am in The National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi) at a presidential level and in the National Honors Society. I worked full time, for over two years, at Community Tissue Services as a "Donor Referral Center Coordinator", becoming AATB certified or, rather, a tissue banking specialist in 2007. Shortly following certification I was appointed as a trainer. I determined, when someone dies, whether or not they were a candidate for tissue and Cornea donation. This was done via telephone with nurses, physicians, and investigators from Coroners' offices. If determined to be a suitable candidate, I contacted the next-of-kin and provided him/her with information regarding donation and its life saving/enhancing benefits. I acted as a family advocate and tried to encourage him/her to donate without being coercive. I also offered them other services as well, such as bereavement and/or support group information within their designated region. Computer/Office knowledge, including the ability to type, was a must and so was multi-tasking, concurrent documentation and adaptability to change. I moved to Houston, TX in August of 2009 to take a position as a Family Services Counselor at a funeral home.
