I am a former engineer and current engineering and product innovation and design teacher at Cordova High School. I design and implement a making and invention curriculum to meet the needs of my students and the community. Our Engineering Academy partners with the local community to solve problems big and small. I am passionate about developing critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers that can be successful in any industry. As a part of the program, students learn how to use tools independently including laser cutters, 3D printers, soldering irons, hand and power tools. Another skill we learn is physical computing with Arduino and microbit. Once they are proficient at these tools, students apply their learning to real-world problems. In addition to teaching, I also am department chair of our career pathways and coordinate our California Partnership Academies and associated grant. I partner closely with my advisory board including Parallax, Folsom Lake Innovation Center and SMUD.
