The ASCO Daily News is the official clinical news publication of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. As the Managing Editor/Associate Director, I develop multichannel oncology news content and spearhead strategies to enhance audience engagement, reaching community oncologists through print, digital, and multimedia programs. I plan, direct, and review all content for news value, accuracy, and messaging. This requires a deep knowledge of the oncology space, best practices in the science and medical writing/editing, and publication trends.A high-level summary of specific duties are as follows:*Plan and oversee content for the entire suite of ASCO Daily News print and digital products including print editions, websites, eBlasts, video, and social.*Collaborate with physician editors on scientific coverage during oncology meetings. *Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external physician sources on content, review and edit all articles and initial proofs for factual and style issues, monitor production processes, assist with production schedule creation, and provide timely, accurate, and thorough follow-up to written and oral communications. *Hire freelance writers and editors for the ASCO Daily News as needed, manage freelancer contracts, and oversee freelancer work.*Manage the ASCO Daily News newsroom including overseeing a staff of approximately 20.*Manage a team of in-house staff writers, editors, and other content creators.*Oversee and direct live meeting coverage, including but not limited to 6 weekends a year.*Develop and implement strategic plans for ASCO Daily News products and multimedia options.*Initiate and execute process improvement, obstacle anticipation and avoidance, and innovative advancements and improvements to products.
