Fajar is a disaster risk reduction (DRR), emergency, and civil-military coordination specialist with 8+ years of solid experience from government institution, I/NGO, UN agency, private company, consultant, and university. Currently, he is working as Preparedness and Response Officer at The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre). Previously, he worked for the INVEST DM Project at Mercy Corps, the Australia-Indonesia Partnership in Disaster Risk Management (AIPDRM) SIAP SIAGA Project by Palladium, the International Federation (IFRC), the United Nations Migration Agency (IOM), and Indonesia National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB). He is also a part-time researcher at the Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Research Center (PSB API UNHAN). His work and research focus on risk reduction, risk governance, science communication, youth, and community empowerment. Fajar is an advocate of DRR. In 2016, he co-founded a youth-sharing platform, Indonesian Youth on Disaster Risk Reduction (IYDRR). In 2017, he received grant funding from the ASEAN Secretariat, USAID, The Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, and the National University of Malaysia (UKM) for his project under the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program (AYVP) on youth and urban community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM). In 2018, he and other young Indonesian DRR professionals founded Youth and Young Professionals on Innovation Science and Technology Platform for Resiliency (U-INSPIRE Indonesia), aiming to utilize science and technology to reduce risk creatively and advocate greater space for youth involvement in DRR. In 2019, with the support of UNESCO, the platform was scaled up to the Asia Pacific Youth and Young Professionals Alliance in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Innovation for DRR (U-INSPIRE Alliance) and, as of now, has expanded to 16 countries across the Asia Pacific and Africa. Currently, he leads the Knowledge Management for the Science Communication Working Group in U-INSPIRE Indonesia. He is also a fellow of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) Young Scientists Programme, based in Beijing, for his research focusing on youth and CBDRM.
