• Plan, manage, and lead evaluations of various state government entities in Texas, analyzing the entities’ efficiency and cost-effectiveness, success in meeting statutory objectives, transparency and responsiveness, considering statutory changes to improve the entities’ operations. • Conduct research, including interviewing staff and interest groups; collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data; reviewing all applicable federal and state statutes and rules; reviewing relative budgetary, financial, and contractual information; and observing and evaluating various administrative processes. • Write and edit reports and publicly present them to the Sunset Advisory Commission. • Collaborate with attorneys to convert Sunset reports into legislation and draft amendments to bills.• Provide oral and written informational briefs concerning Sunset bills for members of the Sunset Commission as well as other members of the Texas Legislature. • Track and provide testimony on Sunset bills during legislative committee hearings.• Hire, train, and mentor new staff.

Teach adults English using commonly prescribed English as a Second Language (ESL) methods.

• Researched criminal justice and various state laws and legislative proposals related to criminal justice and co-produced a policy report • Produced legislative summaries and analyses for the executive director and allied organizations • Compiled fact sheets and written testimony, and provided oral testimony for some of the 80th Texas Legislature’s committees• Participated in various panels and forums on behalf of TCJC and gave presentations on the organization’s work • Wrote press releases, organized press conferences, and attended meetings with state lawmakers to help draft legislation• Collaborated with other project managers on fair defense and racial profiling and helped with legislative work in these areas • Performed policy analysis along with the project manager and the legislative coordinator• Wrote office and legislative memos as well as letters to the editor and op-ed pieces for newspapers• Visited state lawmakers’ offices to review and advocate for specific pieces of legislation during the 79th Texas Legislature
