I started my career as a Linux System Administrator and have been using Linux and various Unices since 1996. I moved to a Network Engineer position because I was fascinated by data moving in high speed and reliably interconnecting various systems. The way packets moved through the Catalyst 6500 and the underlying architecture got me hooked. Being able to read and understand source code and packet dumps has helped me tremendously debugging complex problems through all OSI layers. I'm most comfortable with Perl and Bash but also speak the odd bit of Ruby or PHP and prefer git over SVN. My setups tend to be automated and I am moving from Chef and Saltstack to Ansible.I like to talk about my work on Open Source or community conferences and feel comfortable networking.
