I’m Fangyan Shen from Duke University. I have graduated from the Mechanical Engineering (Robotics) Master of Science program. During my study at Duke University, I focus on Robotics Engineering and have mastered skills in electrical, computer and mechanical engineerings, such as embedded system programming, software engineering, and robotic system design. I have consistently demonstrated teamwork, technical, and communication abilities in every aspect of my experience. I have several experiences related to robotics and automation. I'm a member of team Duke competing in the Amazon Robotic Challenge with teams worldwide, from which I gained much experience in building, controlling and programming robots to deal with complicated tasks. I have studied the perception, planning, and control systems of mobile robots, particularly on Simultaneous Localization and Mapping technology of autonomous robotic systems, in which computer vision and artificial intelligence will be used to help the robots become fully autonomous, which can recognize and navigate reliably in the GPS-denied environments. I have finished three engineering internships in the industry, completing technical related tasks such as designing, testing, and data processing. The assignments during my internships were full of skills and workloads, but I enjoyed working on them and managed to accomplish efficiently.

Engineering InternTerrafugia Jul 2018 - PresentWoburn, Ma, UsIndependently conducted the steering system test of the Transition flying vehicle to verify the durability and wearing performance of the system, studied the test requirements and created the test plan, designed and built the test stand without supervision to simulate the actual steering condition while driving, coordinated with different departments to solve problems during the test, learned to program in LabVIEW in short period of time and wrote a program including motor control and sensor readings to make the testing and data acquisition fully autonomous.Completed the design modifications of the Transition flying vehicle front suspension system, managed the drawing tree, designed a substitutional suspension system to improve the efficiency in assembly and verified through FEA.Completed the redesign and drawing changes of the flight control system to reflect design changes, modified the flight control stick folding system to improve the ease of folding flight control stick while in driving mode. -
Autonomous Navigation And Mapping Of Mobile RobotsDuke University Jan 2017 - Mar 2018Durham, North Carolina, UsBuilt a quadcopter robot equipped with the visual sensor and embedded computing system, implemented the robot perception and control system, developed the localization and mapping algorithm for robot navigation. Completed the hardware configuration and software development of the quadcopter robot, tested the robot in an indoor environment, and verified the correctness and robustness of the visual navigation system. For low cost and high performance in navigation, stereo camera and onboard GPU processing unit were used. Map representation and localization algorithm were improved, and successful non-GPS visual navigation was achieved. -
