My role as a team member of the R&D department is to bring the usability aspect. In other words - I develop products with a focus on user experience and usability by identifying the lack of it from the aspect of operators, service technicians, and other people working with the machines on a daily basis. My work has involved coordination, improvement, and development of materials for handling and service of the machines in a proper way. Included is the training material for both internal and external use. I also develop and program our Human Machine Interface (HMI) depending on the machine, level of operator/service expertise, and location of our customers. I often get confused with a UX designer and per definition it is similar, but my work is a bit different. I gather my feedback by visiting customers all over the world and analyzing their daily work. I have discussions, workshops, and other creative group activities as much as individual interviews and other forms of tools to gather feedback and test new developments. The things that are not my area of expertise are given to other R&D departments (e.g. mechanical and electrical constructions, etc.). Feedback is also gathered from our service technicians, sales personnel, or other departments that are in contact with the customers. My curiosity is growing every day. I love to work in an industry that is continuously changing and have high demands. I always want to bring more to the table and that’s why I’m educating myself (with help from my employer) to become a commissioning engineer. That will bring me closer to our users and at the same time it will give me a better understanding of the products I develop. It is a great challenge!
