In this role, I am responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies for the company's infrastructure and building projects to meet targets set under the Gamuda Green Plan. This involves development of relevant implementation frameworks, action plans and programs to align with relevant sustainability ratings and international standards.I also spearhead market and innovation research on sustainability including circular economy and low carbon strategies.

I was responsible for developing and implementing waste management, recycling and circular economy initiatives, promoting sustainable waste practices across Gamuda's infrastructure businesses.As a part of this portfolio, I worked together with a diverse team of architects, engineers and town planners in the masterplanning and execution of our landmark smart city project: Penang South Islands. My primary responsibility lies in coordinating the development of the solid waste management strategy for the city according to the Low Carbon City Framework (LCCF), with a landfill waste disposal reduction target of 65%, contributing to the overall 45% reduction in total operational emissions for the city.In addition, I also conducted internal ESG data collection and assessment on operations of infra projects, quarry and premix production.During this period, I continued my existing responsibilities, to provide assistance in managing common infra M&E works and digital engineering.

Project: Penang South Islands, Penang Light Rail Transit & Pan Island LinkIn this position, I assisted in the planning of common infrastructures services including utilities (power, fibre, and water), smart city services and workers housing for Gamuda's landmark project; a smart and sustainable city called Penang South Islands. This task involved close coordination with the design team, utility owners as well as international and local consultants / technical specialists to prepare tenders, scope of services, bill of quantities, installation routes & schedules. Similar tasks were also carried out for preparation of the Penang LRT and Pan Island Link projects.Extending on my digital engineering portfolio, I assisted in identifying choke points in construction progress updates and worked with the innovation team to design a framework of digital processes, targeted to save 90% data processing time compared to conventional methods. This involves data collection, extraction, transformation and analytics using business intelligence tools (Power BI / Mapbox).During this period, I also led engagements with various stakeholders across government agencies and our value chain.

Projects: Malaysia High Speed Rail & Penang Light Rail TransitI began my career in infrastructure development as an M&E Engineer in the project management department for Gamuda's elevated railway projects. I was responsible for conducting technical & commercial pre-qualification of contractors, construction studies and planning for installation of utility and M&E services.As a second portfolio, I delved into digital engineering to improve productivity where I established use of digital forms to capture site progress, inspections and work permits. Furthermore, I also lead the planning and execution of drone surveys on construction sites to generate 3D models and 2D maps, saving 500 manhours/month compared to conventional methods.Through this experience, I provided assistance in liaison with government authorities, consultants, contractors and suppliers in the value chain.

In this position, I extended my undergraduate thesis research on computational fluid dynamics & low soot diesel combustion and assisted lead researchers from The University of Sydney & Macquarie University. Through this work, we successfully established the first ever use of the Moss-Brookes soot model to simulate n-dodecane combustion (n-dodecane is a form of experimental diesel) with results indicating high sensitivity of soot formation towards the turbulence Schmidt number.Together, we co-authored a research paper titled: "An Analysis of Turbulent Mixing Effects on the Soot Formation in High Pressure N-dodecane Sprays" which is available in the Journal of Flow, Turbulence & Combustion: (DOI:10.1007/s10494-019-00045-9).

During this hands-on program, I understudied with engineers and technicians in the diesel refining segment of Malaysia's second locally developed oil refinery. I was involved in the planning and execution of routine and preventive maintenance including overhauls of pumps and various types of heat exchangers. I also installed by-pass lines and conducted root-cause failure analyses on air fin coolers. The tasks were hands-on with direct physical experience of maintenance activities.
