I successfully designed a new experimental set up in kerogen extraction from oil sands that reduces the time and expenses of kerogen extraction to 40% of traditional methods. I also investigated the role of kerogen in solvent retention and particle sedimentation of Alberta oil sands.I used extensive range of characterization methods in this project including SEM, EDXA, quantitative and semi-quantitative XRD, XRF, NMR, Mass Spectroscopy, DTA/TGA, BET, FTIR, FBRM, CHNS elemental analyzer, Particle size analyzing. As a part of the project, I also designed and performed safe procedures of working with chemicals including acids (HCl, HF, HNO3) and solvents (Toluene, Cyclohexane, Hexane, THF, Methanol, propanol) based on their MSDSs and writing SOPs in this project.A part of my responsibilities were test design and commissioning, scheduling and test equipment maintenance along with documentation, safety protocols, SOP development and updating MSDS.
