About Farheen Shaikh

With over 8 years of experience in rheumatology, immunology, and molecular biology, I am now a Postdoctoral Scholar at UW Medicine in the Department of Rheumatology, working alongside Dr. Tomas Mustelin. My research focuses on autoimmune diseases, where I continue to explore the underlying mechanisms driving inflammation and immune responses.During my PhD at Washington State University, I studied the interaction between TNF-α and the TWEAK/Fn-14 axis in rheumatoid arthritis, deepening my understanding of cytokine biology and its implications for therapeutic interventions. This work fueled my passion for discovering new ways to address immune-driven diseases.I’ve also had the opportunity to gain industry experience at Genentech, where I worked on bispecific antibody projects, performing bioassays and flow cytometry to evaluate immune responses. As I move forward in my research journey, my goal is to contribute to advancements in autoimmune disease research and improve therapeutic strategies for patients.
