CurrentHuman factors consultant and a leader of the practice group. Extensive experience in evaluating and testifying on incidents related to product liability, railroad and roadway incidents, as well as construction and occupational incidents. Investigated numerous accidents involving product liability matters arising from product design and failure to warn claims. Evaluations have involved consumer and commercial products, including but not limited to kitchen and home appliances, toys and children’s equipment, apparel, exercise machines, agriculture, construction and mining equipment, and industrial machinery in work environments. Assisted clients with proactive consulting in product use/misuse research, product design, testing, and compliance, assembly instructions, warnings, safety instructions and manual development.Investigated human response to alarms and sounds, fire, smoke, fatigue, and stress. Evaluated train horn and backup alarm sounds in railroad crossing incidents as well as worksite (construction/industrial) backing incidents. Technique used includes capturing high fidelity auditory sound data to demonstrate “what could be heard” in an incident environment. Investigated visibility, risk taking behavior, decision making, attention, perception-reaction, hazard awareness, and training, in various incident scenarios.
