About Farhez Rayani

Farhez is well-versed in CG film production and speaks the language of artists, engineers, producers, directors and clients. He creatively & technically supervises teams, large and small on film projects and immersive projects. He maintains direct connection to the craft by also working "on the box". In his 10 years at Pixar, he served as Lighting Director of Photography, Lead, Master Lighting Artist and Technical Director on Academy Award® winning and nominated features and short films — his work has also been nominated for a Visual Effects Society (VES) award. As a founding team member of Pixar's Spark Shorts program and as Lighting Director of Photography on the first two films, production time and cost of short films was reduced by 80%. This success enabled a greater diversity of storytelling at Pixar. Additionally, Farhez played a key role in the r&d and adoption of several new lighting technologies at Pixar (PBR, Global Illumination, Katana/USD, RenderMan RIS) and he led the mentorship of the studio-wide TD population so that it could create more sophisticated looks and utilize more efficient workflows using the technologies.Experienced with both Animated and VFX films at studios such as Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, Rhythm & Hues, Rising Sun Pictures and client-facing studio projects for Meta/Facebook, Disney/Marvel, Netflix, Farhez has led remote teams, large and small. As CG/VFX Supervisor and Lighting DP, he played a pivotal role in the production of the stylized animated film: "Sonder", one of the first ever made with a real-time engine (Unity). It screened at over two dozen festivals worldwide and won multiple awards for Best Animated Film. Farhez has Creative Directed and CG/VFX Supervised dozens of CG and also Augmented Reality projects, experienced by 100s of millions. His work recently won Best Immersive at Tribeca Film Festival.
