Project : Oil Sands, CNRL, Froth treatment plant, Fort McMurray, Alberta (650 Million Dollars)This was an EPCM project and I was seconded to Calgary to speed up delivery of design drawings to contractors’. The area of work was Zone “C” which was included a building made of steel structure where were supported by concrete piles and steel platform for electrical panels for electrical building and a 3 storey pipe rack to hold all cable tray for in and out power cables.My accomplishment was based on implementing interactive discussion via Skype between Calgary where engineers and checkers were sitting and Mumbai where 20 designers were working. This procedure was helped to avoid re-working due to not understanding of mark up drawings and answer the designer doubt about engineers or checkers comments.In addition, by utilizing Tekla software to check the prepared shop drawing by steel fabricator located at Texas-U.S, resulted to delivery all pre-assembled pipe racks resulted in on time delivery, including their pipes without any need of modification or additional site work at project location (Fort McMurray).

Main Project:BioAmber Succinic Acid plant, Sarnia, Ontario (300 Million Dollars)This was an EPC project and I had coach a team of 3 junior engineers and 4 designers and reported to department manager. I was prepared conceptual drawing for mat foundations, steel structures, material take off of steel, concrete, excavation and rebar’s including technical specifications for 4 parts of projects on less than 18 weeks which could help to procurement department to prepare bid document and ask contractors to participate to the bid. Moreover, these drawings were submitted on time to the City to start their procedure of issuing building permits and correct estimation of the fees while staying within budget.Integrating Projects: Rehabilitation and new extension at existing Imperial oil facility, Sarnia, OntarioI had edited existing check lists and proposed new comprehensive check lists resulted in correct site assessment of existing condition which was helped to prepare detailed drawing for new extensions/modifications or prepare a structural strength/ weakness report of existing element(s).

This was a mid. Size company focusing on contracting project, which was not attracting the share holders to invest on it. Therefore, by proposing design-build idea, company could win about 20 numbers bid which was worth about $50M of turn-key industrial/ institutional projects in less than five years. I was directing our multidisciplinary engineering team of 6 engineers, 7 draftspersons, and 3 estimators.My responsibilities were included:1) Participate on requested bids, prepare the whole package with the cost and schedule to get award 2) Upon of award of project prepare the design package with our engineering team to get building permit 3) Monitor and Control project execution for quality, progress and budget. Including change managements for requested change order from clients or supplier/sub trades. Shareholders, invested for company to buy a 5000 sqft office and a 35000 sqft yard with a covered area of 15000 sqft for fabrication of steel structure, also they invested a lot to purchase 3 Pick-up, new construction equipments, office furniture and engineering, estimation and accounting software.Furthermore, net profit increased from nil on 2004 prior to my hiring date to $5.4M on 2009.

This design-build company which was established on 1993 and it was having their own engineering office, steel fabrication yard, covered storage, concrete framing team, team of masons to do all finishing works, and several pickups, trailers and cranes to handle project efficiently, on fast past and on lower budget which were make it un bitable. Company had 250 staff under its payroll at my hiring and increased to 500.I proposed to management to obtain an ISO certificate, which would make us eligible to participate on high qualified bid. I was assigned to follow and establish ISO system; therefore with help of an expert, we could prepare organization chart for whole company and introduce the job description for each person, train the staff, engineers and crew to follow the system properly. We issued several check lists and a quality control department to avoid reworking and have the best result from each departments.As matter of fact; Company obtained ISO 9002 and it resulted to win more bids and turnover increased from $4.6M on 2002 to $18M on 2005.

This engineering firm traditionally designs concrete structures for various types of projects, I delivered ideas for bolted steel structure which was fabricated and imported from Iran (Lower cost than local steel structures) and install at Turkey. This attracts several industrial clients in Istanbul and Izmir free zone for the factories production warehouse which resulted in, a 40% reduction in project duration.

There was an approved budget from UNESCO to renovate an existing extension of Vaccine production plant where it was damaged. I performed vulnerability assessment of an existing 2 storey steel structure and prepared rehabilitation design respectively, to construct a 3 storey building where, the 3rd floor was the place to accommodate all electrical/mechanical equipments and at ground floor there were 3 isolated rooms for vaccine productions located.By performing very detail analysis, I reuse the whole 6000 sqm building without demolishing the existing foundations, and just by strengthening exiting foundations, columns, beams and their connection and with the help of composite system the new building was blast proof and stable against the announced highest earthquake. This is resulted in saving of 35% of construction budget and it was utilized to construct a new lab

This was a resort at Caspian Sea with 168 suites. Built in a wing shape where the middle block was a 5 storey building to locate restaurant at 5th floor with two connected 4 storey building at both sides. I was assigned to design the structure and due to limited access to the site, I proposed a cast-in-place concrete structure and flat slabs which was the best system at a high risk of seismic zone and roof could be casted in slope which by waterproofing of roof and using clay tile as a decorative elements, Architect could keep the traditional elevation for this resort and it became a part of that exiting small and old community.

This was a Pre-Engineered steel manufacturing company under the license of American Soule with capacity of 2000 ton per month, ordered by various clients for their light to very heavy industrial projects I as part of design team of company was responsible for ;o Detail design of steel structure with built-up sections and required welding details o Detail design of bolted connection and , of built-up crane run way beam, brackets o Check cold formed section i.e. purlins, girts and end-post column By a team work of 3 senior designers, 10 draftspersons, 2 other engineer and our engineering manager who was a PHD in structural design from MIT, we change the drafting system from hand drawing to AutoCAD system and this was an excellent experience of teamwork and improving AutoCAD still of mine.In addition, by purchasing new software the structural calculation could be fast and more accurate, and then our company was able to approach international market of Saudi Arabia, U.A.E, Qatar and Kuwait.
