You have to want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar." - Trina PaulusMy interest in counseling began during my two years as a facilitator of mental health Grace Groups at Community Bible Church in San Antonio, Texas. Reducing the stigma of receiving mental health support and seeing group members gain hope opened my eyes to the value and need for supportive, compassionate, and empathetic mental health professionals. My leadership skills, including adaptability and flexibility, attention to detail, time management, and integrity, all empowered me to be an impactful and effective group leader who provided a combined psychoeducational and safe, faith-based group support approach.In 2022, I transitioned from a trained Care and Support volunteer at Community Bible Church to seeking a master's degree in counseling through Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine. I am in my second year of my master's program and look forward to my upcoming practicum and internship, where I will complete trauma-informed care training and certification. My responsibilities as an intern will include supervised parent exchanges and visitations, group counseling for parents, and individual counseling for children, adolescents, and adults. Solution-focused therapy, positive parenting strategies, and facilitating the growth of strong families are all essential interventions that will provide new perspectives and solutions that will impact and strengthen the families and individuals I counsel.Do we have to remain a caterpillar forever? NO! The life cycle of a butterfly continually provides an excellent parallel for me to the therapeutic process of counseling and its life-changing effect on individuals, families, and society as a whole. A caterpillar metamorphosizing into a beautiful, radiant butterfly is how I mentally picture my life's course and view my future clients' potential. I look forward to helping clients see that life as a caterpillar feasting on a diet of weeds is not the end of their story! The process is not easy and can be painful, but it is definitely WORTH IT!  My goal in my future counseling career is to help others through the transformative process of finding their purpose and healing in life. I am passionate about an integrative and holistic approach that recognizes the multidimensional influences of the spirit, soul, and body in that process. Anyone can become a butterfly!
