Student Behavioral Assistant
CurrentAs a Student Behavioral Assistant at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, I provide vital support in the care and treatment of patients within a high-acuity psychiatric setting. My role involves facilitating group therapy sessions using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, promoting emotional regulation, mindfulness, and overall well-being.I specialize in continuous monitoring and care for 25 patients experiencing high-acuity psychosis and delusions, ensuring their safety and progress within individualized treatment plans. Working closely with interdisciplinary teams across 10 psychiatric units, I collaborate to assess patient progress, update care plans, and ensure seamless care delivery.In addition to patient care, I serve as an active member of the recovery team, providing crisis support on other floors, performing restraints and escorts, and contributing to efficient hospital operations. My responsibilities also include charting daily activities, monitoring vital signs, and assessing risk factors for suicidality and homicidality, ensuring that patients’ needs are met while maintaining a focus on safety and well-being.This role has strengthened my ability to work under pressure, apply my coursework in real-life situations, and contribute meaningfully to patient recovery in a dynamic healthcare environment.
