From my young boy scout, popcorn sales years, elementary candy bar sales, car sales, to home sales, I've won most sales contests which I've been a part of. I've learned that sales are great, but the sale is just the beginning of the relationship. I contemplate the opportunity cost of my actions & choose to spend my time in the most efficient way (most of the time). I would rather spend time with my family, than have it wasted while working inefficiently. After many failed attempts to get clients to ask/request Matt, Matthew, Mr. Smith... from my ads I started going by "Fat Matt." It worked! Clients started calling and walking in, "Let me talk to "Fat Matt." "Is Fat Matt around?" Then when I (not fat, contrary to their mental picture) would say, "Hi, I'm Fat Matt," we would all get a great laugh & the ice was already broken. Sales increase and are so much fun when "Fat Matt" is involved!Upon forming Fat Matt LLC, I searched my network, found roof laborers who needed work, insurance, bonds, friends who needed new roofs, put them all together, now "Fat Matt Does That." I am far from the strongest, smartest, quickest, or even best looking person at Fat Matt, but I don’t have to be. The synergy as a team are what makes us capable of doing so much more. Without the people at Fat Matt I wouldn’t be able to do nearly as much, nor have as much impact as we do.
