Currently, I am working as Chief Technology Officer at Neurostellar, Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. I have successfully completed my PhD on "Design and development of heart rate variability biofeedback system for magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG) studies" in Engineering Sciences at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Tamil Nadu, India affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) (under the aegis of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India). My research work was of interdisciplinary nature involving the design and development of a heart rate variability biofeedback (HRVBF) system to examine the effect of biofeedback training on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and heat-induced pain threshold. The following are a few of my notable contributions:1. Development of a low noise single-channel ECG amplifier for recording cardiac signals.2. Development of a novel real-time R-peak detection algorithm to instantaneously compute and present heart rate (HR) as cueing stimulus for breathing. 3. Development of a unique methodology to estimate continuous systolic and diastolic blood pressure values from a photoplethysmogram (PPG) using machine learning algorithms to compute Baroreflex gain as a quantifiable index of biofeedback training.4. Development of an adaptive noise canceller for MEG recordings to reduce additional noise from HRVBF electronics kept inside a magnetical shield room (MSR).5. Development of a first of its kind portable contact heat evoked potential stimulator (CHEPS) for presenting heat stimulus to the subjects.Two independent physiological studies conducted using the developed biofeedback hardware implicated the involvement of ANS on heat perception and modulations in the spontaneous brain rhythms as an effect of biofeedback training (with the help of paced respiratory cueing). The training has also shown a notable increase in the MEG/EEG signal powers of Alpha and Theta rhythms, indicating the involvement of attention and mindfulness traits of subjects. The physiological link between the vagal tone and neuronal traits has been explored. The potential of HRV-BF to be applied as an effective non-invasive therapeutic tool to influence ANS is well understood. I am versed in biomedical instrumentation, control system design, embedded systems, ML/AI and EEG/MEG signal processing and analysis and also in multi-disciplinary biomedical projects.
