As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) in Complex Needs and Level 3 Sensory Integration (SI) Practitioner at Powerful Voices, I support the communication development and participation of children and young people with complex communication needs. I have a BSc (Hons) in Human Communication: Speech and Language Therapy from De Montfort University, and Postgraduate Certificate in SI from Sheffield Hallam University.My core competencies include speech therapy, training, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), organisation and interpersonal skills. I work with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, and deliver individualised and evidence-based interventions for clients with various conditions, such as autism, cerebral palsy, and learning disabilities. I also provide Makaton training to settings and individuals online or face-to-face, as I am a certified Makaton Tutor. Makaton is a language program that uses signs and symbols to help people communicate. I am passionate about teaching others a skill that can enhance the communication opportunities for all. I am motivated by the positive impact that speech and language therapy can have on the lives of my clients and their families.
