As part of my placement, I had the pleasure of working at Side by Side Advocacy. As a result of my 6 weeks of placement, I have gained so much knowledge about how the organisation operates on a daily basis. I gained an understanding of the work citizens, individuals, and legal advocates do on behalf of their clients. Side by side advocacy has exposed me to the challenges people with disabilities face and also showed me the systemic issues they face. There were various projects I worked on, including: writing grants, intake assessments, empowering people with disabilities to express themselves, understanding inclusion from a disability perspective, and more.
