About Flavia Brandabur
As a Senior Assistant Psychologist at Re:Cognition Health, I work in Alzheimer's Disease clinical trials, conducting memory assessments, patient recruitment, and coordinating observational studies. I have a master's degree in Psychological Research Methods from the University of Plymouth, where I developed skills in data analysis, literature review, and experimental design.I enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where I can build relationships with our participants and tailor our services to their needs. As part of my role, I had the opportunity to lead the execution of Amypred, the first clinical study to use AI-based speech analysis to detect amyloid protein, a key indicator of Alzheimer's Disease, using a phone application. I sourced participants across England, exceeding the recruitment goal by 200%, increasing revenue for our centre, and providing feedback to the sponsor company to improve the app's user-friendliness. What I enjoy doing on a regular basis is conducting semi-structured interviews, which allow me to learn more about the participants and their difficulties, while adhering to GCP guidelines to ensure the quality and validity of the studies. I am passionate about contributing to the advancement of Alzheimer's research and improving the lives of those affected by this condition.I have been fortunate enough to be involved in the studies evaluating the effectiveness of Donanemab, Lecanemab as well as Valiltramiprosate, the first three drugs in the last 20 years that have been showing promising results against Alzheimer's Disease. Despite the amount of clinical trials that are unsuccessful, with resilience and optimism, we push forward to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Senior Assistant Psychologist
On a weekly basis, I do many semi-structured interviews, which are my favorite part of the job. Screening participants is allowing me to learn more about them and their difficulties and although clinical trials involve strict rules and procedures, the interviews give me the freedom to ask questions that help us tailor the services we provide to the individual. Since Plymouth is a small city, many of our participants hear about us through word of mouth and I am determined to offer participants an amazing customer experience so their recommendation can reach others that may need our services.Another part of my role involves cold-calling a high volume of leads to discuss their interest in clinical trials as well as conducting pre-screening assessments and guiding them through the process. I increased enrolment rate by implementing a virtual assessment used during the pre-screening calls to accurately assess suitability for trials, and matching participants to the appropriate studies. Using Zoho CRM has been really helpful to schedule calls and follow-ups with participant leads, monitor lead status and maintain accurate records.I also coordinate a tech-based study and established great rapport with the sponsor company by exceeding recruitment targets, taking the initiative to gather feedback and offering recommendations to make the app more user friendly. As a result of the quality of work conducted, I have developed a great working relationship with the COO of the sponsor company, which has also led to a 2-year contract extension with our company.
Assistant Psychologist
Honorary Assistant Psychologist
I have co-facilitated groups that focused on compassion and resilience in the face of mental health difficulties. During these sessions, I tactfully handled any issues that arose within the group dynamics. I enjoyed building rapport with patients as it helped to identify their concerns and discussed with the team during multidisciplinary meetings how we can best support them through a patient-centred approach. Undertook in-depth literature review to help research burnout within the unit, to ensure an evidence-based approach when developing practices aimed at maintaining harmonious team dynamics.
Honorary Assistant Psychologist
While volunteering in an in-patient unit, I co-facilitated rehabilitation groups that focused on reintegrating patients back into the community. I was able to build a strong rapport with the patients by actively listening to their concerns whilst also managing their expectations of the life outside the unit. I used the information from the patient database to analyse the patients’ history and identify the factors that could impede their recovery to gain a better understanding of the challenges they may be facing when they are released.
Honorary Assistant Psychologist
Involved in assessing patients who expressed concerns over memory difficulties. I learned to administer a wide range of neuropsychological tests as well as to score and interpret them and write draft reports based on those assessments. In addition, I co-facilitated psychoeducational groups for those with mild-to-moderate memory difficulties, offering techniques that can help them to manage their condition better.I was responsible for keeping the patient database up to date with any changes to their treatment.
Research Apprentice
I had the opportunity to help on a study on Medical Alarm Fatigue by conducting background research on the topic, re-designing the questionnaire for the study and collecting data. I did this face-to-face as well as online.
