Fabio Calefato received a Laurea degree cum laude in Computer Science in 2002 and a Ph.D in 2007, both from the University of Bari. His PhD thesis (“Supporting Synchronous Communication in Distributed Software Teams”) was selected by ACM SIGSOFT (Special Interest Group in Software engineering) as one of the most noticeable work in the area of Software Engineering in 2007 (http://www.sigsoft.org/phdDissertations).During his PhD, Dr. Calefato was a visiting student in 2004 at the Technical University of Wien, Austria, where he worked with prof. Sharham Dustdar, and in 2006 at the University of Victoria, Canada, where he collaborated with prof. Daniela Damian. From April 2007 to November 2008 and again since April 2010 Dr. Calefato is a post-doc at the University of Bari. In 2008 Fabio Calefato also received a certification to teach computer science in high school.His research interests are mostly in the area of software engineering, with a focus on the development of collaborative tools. In particular, Fabio Calefato masters the state of the art and of the practice in the following research fields: computer-mediated communication theories, requirements engineering, software inspection, distributed development, agile methodologies, COTS-based development, collaborative software, social software, and knowledge management. In 2006 and 2008, Dr. Fabio Calefato, with the research unit led by prof. Filippo Lanubile, received, respectively, the 2006 IBM Eclipse Innovation Award and the 2008 IBM Faculty Award.
