After graduating from Fordham University, I became the first in my family to break into the financial services industry. A decade into the industry, I had collected 7 licenses, and climbed the ladder from investment advisor in Long Island to manager of an equity trading desk on Wall Street that on busy days executed 2 1/2% of the NYSE volume. On September 3, 2001, my third of three children was born. I took a week of paternity leave to be with my wife and children. On Mon, September 10 I returned to work with cigars for my desk to be celebrated that Friday after the closing bell. The next day - the world changed.I stayed with the firm until we closed our doors in 2003, as the volatility had left the market, and trading firms like our needed that to survive. I had realized that I was no longer interested in taking a 6:08 train into the city, only to return home at 8pm, and work to save a hedge fund ten cents on a 10,000 share trade of a tech stock. I hadn't seen much of my children, so I became that after-school special stereotype - I left my seven NASD licenses and six figure income behind to turn my passions, working with children and youth sports, into my business. Since then, I have utilized my success in the business world with this passion, in order to found youth soccer programs, supervise youth sports camps, coach children as young as pre-schoolers and old as Division 1 college athletes, direct a summer day camp for nearly 500 families, and lead staffs of nearly 90 high school and college students each year. And no, I've never looked back.
